Hayley gives voice to the roots of struggle and grief that she experienced as a child in her debut collection of poetry. Within this collection, she also provides voice to the love and pursuit of self-acceptance that were vital in her own choosing to live. Through the shadows of the past and the fleeting moments of delight captured in the simplicity of something as simple as sharing an orange, her verses build a narrative that is both profoundly personal and universally relatable. According to the saying, “even when you think there’s nothing left, life gives us oranges, so go share one with your best friend.” Perhaps your friend too believed that the world would end when they were 16 years old.
