About Stuck With You by Ali Hazelwood
There is a possibility that a fair amount of scientific competition can intensify the love that exists between a pair.
Before being scientists, Mara, Sadie, and Hannah are best friends. They may go to different regions of the world for their studies, but they can all agree on one thing: in both science and romance, it is preferable to be a “opposite” rather than a “rival.”
Sadie is able to determine, via the use of reasoning, that civil engineers are in charge of building bridges. But as a woman with a background in STEM, she is also aware that circumstances may change, and that when you’re trapped in an elevator with the man who broke your heart in New York City for hours on end, you have every right to torch that hunk of blond muscle. She knows this because she is a woman with a background in STEM. To quote her rebel leader, she would rather kiss a Wookiee despite Erik’s attempts to apologise to her.
Even Sadie’s most elaborate superstitious practises were unable to foretell the disastrous encounter that they were about to experience. Despite her best efforts to ignore the allure of Erik’s steely forearms and the way his voice softens when he offers her his sweater, Sadie can’t help but wonder if there might be more to her cold-hearted foe than meets the eye. She can’t help but wonder if there might be more to her cold-hearted foe than meets the eye. Maybe, just maybe, it’s still feasible to cross bridges that have been burned down….
Keep an eye out for Under One Roof, which is currently on sale, as well as Below Zero, which will be published by Berkley in the near future. Both books feature Mara and Hannah’s exploits.
About the Author
My name is Ali, and I write contemporary romance novels with a concentration on strong female characters who are employed in fields related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and academia. I adore kitties, Nutella, and side ponytails. In addition to that, I’m currently teaching myself how to crochet, so as you can see, I’m a very busy and intriguing person who leads a very exciting and fulfilling life! I only use Goodreads for the purpose of reviewing books that I have thoroughly liked reading and promoting them to other readers (many of these book are ARCs received from fellow authors).
Stuck With You by Ali Hazelwood Summary
It took all of my concentration to stay awake through the book’s slow beginning. Sadie and Erik’s entire story revolves on the thirty minutes they spent stuck in an elevator with three weeks ago, on the day they first met. The pinnacle of online romantic attachments shared via social media.
As the novel progresses, Sadie’s inability to stop Erik’s whacking body and her resulting horniness are becoming increasingly frustrating. Heroes in Hazelwood’s novels tend to be portrayed in a fairly consistent manner, with only a little degree of variation. I get that the hero’s musculature is being emphasised so that the reader can focus on his or her virility, but are there any other examples of heroic proportions that we can use as readers?
This instance is making it clear that Erik is typical of the Hazelwood MMCs; he has a lot of muscle and is very confident in his own abilities. The situation was somewhat similar to Olive 2.0 when Sadie started freaking out since Erik’s was much larger than she had anticipated. The smut scene is just as disappointing, I’m afraid. Okay, I get it, but she’s starting to sound like a broken record.
Also, from now on I’ll remember how much Ali Hazelwood loves (and by love I mean is obsessed with) the miscommunication cliché as a plot device, and I’ll lower my expectations accordingly. Only if she can tell a compelling story will I take her passion seriously. This backfires on Hazelwood because her hero is constantly cast as the crazy and foolish one, despite being the intended opposite. I knew I wasn’t going to receive anything good when Sadie informed me that Erik had deceived her.
Once more, the story’s premise is unclear. Exactly. Nada. For this reason, I upgraded my original two-star review to a three-star one. The witty banter and exciting dates in the middle of the book were the main reasons. Refreshing, too, were the conversations that ensued over the game. There’s no denying the relationship has room for improvement, and I stand by my assessment that insta-love is poisoning everything. However, with Erik’s assistance, the book ends up being more gushing than it otherwise would be, and it’s pretty cute. That’s just the way it goes: credit where credit is due.
I enjoyed the narration more this time around, but Sadie remains an unlikable protagonist. And I’ll be honest and say that the MMC impression seemed a lot less convincing than that of the prior narrator. Overall, the benefit that Stuck With You had over the first novella was minor but significant. Once more, I appreciate Erik’s efforts to keep me amused.
