Juliette Ferrars thought she had won, or at least it looked that way. With Warner at her side, she has been named the new Supreme Commander and is now in charge of Sector 45. The destiny of the world, however, is in her hands; she is still the girl who can murder with a touch. When calamity strikes, who will she be then? Can she keep her abilities in check and use them for the greater good?
The Bio of Tahereh Mafi
Both the New York Times and USA Today bestseller lists feature Tahereh Mafi’s Shatter Me trilogy as a top pick. She and her writer husband Ransom Riggs uprooted their lives from a small Connecticut village and settled in Santa Monica. She’s always on a caffeine high and reading a book when you run into her. Shatter Me, her first novel for middle graders, is out now, and its darker sequel, Whichwood, will be out soon. ABC Signature Studios has opted for the television rights to her series.
Restore Me: A Synopsis
I’m pleased I decided to keep going with this series since this book was fantastic.
There is immediate attention paid to the worldbuilding, something many readers likely found wanting in the first three books. I didn’t think that was a big deal in the books because Juliette was the only POV character and her ignorance was on purpose. This is made clear very early on, and her naiveté about the world and the mess she’s gotten herself into is a crucial plot point.
Even though there is more worldbuilding in the later books, the first three still have a whimsical, romantic tone. Long-term relationships bring the kind of love (and grief) that fills this story to the brim. The story follows a pair with romantic aspirations who meet under unexpected circumstances and learn little about one another.
I haven’t reread the first three volumes in a very long time, but I had the impression that Warner and Juliette were the same characters. They didn’t go the easy (and harmful) route of changing who they were once they were together, and that was nice to watch. Only two weeks have gone since the events of Ignite Me, and the novel picks up right where it left off.
Conclusion
Holy. Fucking. Shit. Oh, the horror! I can’t begin to make sense of all of these conflicting emotions since they’re all flowing into my system at once. I don’t understand a thing that happened just now. ‘Restore Me’ left me with a terrible sense of loss that I couldn’t shake. Heartache. It seemed as if a bowling ball were permanently resting on my chest, preventing me from inhaling fully. I was moved to tears by the second chapter. The witch is part of Warner’s perspective. Now you have some idea of how long I’ve felt this weight on my shoulders. You will also chuckle, grin, and swoon (Over Warner), so it’s not all tears.
The pain depicted in “Restore Me” was almost unbearable. What little heart I had left eventually broke, and I have no idea how to mend it. If that makes any sense at all, I am thrilled and infuriated. In one sitting, I read the entire thing. The captivating aspect of it had me on the edge of my seat. The environment, plot, conversation, and character growth are all essential elements. What happens can be summarised as a series of terrible events and disclosures about the Reestablishment and Juliette and Warner’s past. After such a startling final result… I don’t know how Tahereh Mafi expects us to hold out for an entire year before reading the sequel. When I have a burning curiosity about what’s going on! While I wait, I’m sure I’ll die of boredom.
