Synopsis of the Book: “The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue”
On the evening of July 29th, at dark, a ghost can supposedly be seen passing through the valleys and alleys viewable through a wooden ring while singing, sighing, and yearning. And if you were to lean in, shell of an ear pressed to the ring, you’d hear the echoes of a madwoman, babbling of a dance of three centuries, a game between the ruler of darkness and a ghost of a girl, a conflict that was love, yearning, and passion.
If you follow her for long enough, myth has it, she’ll take you on a journey across seas and millennia in pursuit of the ghosts of an idea, a touch, or a group of seven freckles. In response to the question of what she seeks, she will say, “I’m looking for a god and a girl.” Then she would have to confront the unknown, her difficulties, and her fervent prayers.
Run away from me, buddy, and let your fist fly open, spilling the grains you’ve been collecting. If you don’t, a guy with raven hair and brief green mazes for eyes set on a wolf’s face will emerge from the shadows, bearing his own temples of need and despair. The devil would claim you as his own if you stayed.
Conclusion
A long cry from being unremarkable, obscure, and easily forgotten, this is one of those rare books that will make you feel things you didn’t know you were capable of feeling and leave an indelible mark on your mind. This is a book that will challenge your assumptions about a wide range of ideas, including autonomy, choice, responsibility, love, need, memory, and legacy. A compelling read that will leave readers feeling moved long after they’ve put the book down.
A captivating and musical account of a young woman doomed to obscurity when she risks everything by making a pact with the devil, all set to a melody that will endure for three centuries.
Awful, yet beautiful; painful, dragging on, mysterious, and alluring. I would have sacrificed many other works if I’d known the narrative and writing would be as wonderful and memorable as they were. Incredible in every way.
Structure of a Story
This story of a girl who sells her soul to the devil in exchange for eternal life will stay with you long after you finish reading it. How much suffering must she go through? centuries of Lucier’s complete attention and taunting to discourage you from continuing. But even if she does make it to the next century, she will be forgotten by everyone she ever encounters.
Instead of selling her soul to the devil, Addie chooses to take a chance on life by travelling to France and England in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Through it all, she notices two constants despite the wars, centuries of change, rebirth, and revolution. No one will remember her, not even Lucifer. Warning, “watch out for your own wishes,” is a fitting way to wrap things out.
Addie isn’t remembered by anyone save the boy named Henry who becomes her infatuation, best friend, and reality. After everything they’ve given up and promised each other for something they later realised wasn’t more important, is it even possible for them to stay together? Holy crap!!! They can’t change the past, so they must deal with the present. And now she has to ask herself…
