Cruel King Book Summary
probably isn’t for everyone, but I found it to be a good book overall.
Brief Summary of the Plot: This is the story of Astrid and Levi. Astrid has been an invisible girl until the summer before her final year. That all changes when she runs into Levi at an end-of-year party. Levi is a King, and it is known that they are in charge of their school. Astrid’s father told her to stay away from the King family because of an unknown rivalry between the two families. Levi has also been told to stay away from Astrid, but he is pulled to her. After a lot of back and forth, they end up getting close and falling in love. There is some drama in the family, some big secrets are revealed, and they have some hot and sexy times. The story ends with “HFN.”
This was told from both Astrid’s and Levi’s points of view (POV).
Story Pace in General: Good. I thought it made sense and I didn’t skim.
Instalove: No, it’s more like “hate to love,” and it takes a while for the feelings to get stronger.
About H (Hero). Levi! He was a disaster! He was a jerk (on the border of being sociopathic), very hurt by his family, very protective to the point of violence, and…I liked him a lot, to be honest. I don’t know why or how I liked his character, since I would never want my partner to act the way he did.
About (heroine). Astrid. I liked her. I liked that she wanted to fight back and did so. I did think she was too much under the H’s spell when he kissed her or touched her, and she didn’t hold him as responsible as I wanted.
Sadness level: low, no need for a box of tissues. they both pull away sometimes, but I’d say the Hero is the one who pursues the bond the most.
Heat level: Hot. They have some hot heat, chemistry, and scenes, but not so much that it takes away from the story.
Descriptive intimacy: Yes
Drama with OW (Other Woman) and OM (Other Man): Yes, The Hero is very possessive and gets jealous when other guys are around The H. The H is hurt by the scene she walks in on (see cheating spoiler below).
Separation: Yes, they are apart a few times in the near future, but no other partners are mentioned or suggested.
Possible Triggers: Yes Both Hero and Heroine lost a parent (off page), H’s parent had a mental problem (off page), H got bj from h’s step-sister and saw it (on page), H used drugs and was violent (on page), and H was a virgin (on page).
This had a cute finish and pretty good resolution. It has a bonus scene after the conclusion that I liked, but if you sign up for the author’s newsletter, you can get another bonus scene that I think will give you more closure. That’s not what I did. I’m going to call this an HFN finish, which means they’re getting married.
Safety: This one is probably either Safe with a few exceptions or Not Safe, based on the person reading it.
