J.J. McAvoy, author of the Ruthless People series and other Amazon bestsellers, has written a lovely and spicy New Adult romance.
Thea Cunning has a steamy one-week relationship with a musician she meets in a pub, and then writes him off as a one-night stand. The next day, however, she learns that her professor is also one of the best criminal lawyers in Massachusetts; he had been hiding this fact from her.
Tensions rise as each student vies to join the elite group of twelve pupils whom Professor Black mentors. Because of their intense week together and palpable chemistry, Thea is really considering skipping his class. After all, there are plenty of other (less annoyingly hot) legal instructors here.
Thea wants to free her father from prison, but she knows she needs to learn from the greatest, and Levi Black is the best there is.
About The Author J.J. McAvoy
I was born in Montreal, Canada, but I’m a twenty-something year old student in Virginia right now. I’d tell you what my major is, but even after two years, I have no clue.
You found me because I write, so I guess that makes me a movie buff and a wannabe chef. Despite the fact that I have zero musical talent, I adore music. That won’t necessarily deter me, but consider yourself warned.
In the summer of 2013, I began writing Ruthless People in an effort to provide myself with a fresh take on the genre of love and crime drama. It’s shocking how many people share my views. I count myself really lucky to have such devoted followers. It means the world to me that you like the words I’ve put down on paper.
Black Rainbow Book Summary
The two main characters, Levi and Thea, are what make Black Rainbow stand out to me despite the fact that I had heard or seen stories or parts of it before. There was a lot of back-and-forth between the past and the present at the beginning of the novel; in the past, they were strangers who agreed to have a week of sex with no strings attached, and in the present, Levi is a ruthless professor, and Thea is one of his students.
If they weren’t constantly horny or having a piss-off with one another, I would have given up on the story a long time ago. I got back to it after a week’s break (I blame “The Walking Dead,” this show is extremely compelling!!) and continued from where I’d left off. this time around I enjoyed it thoroughly. Perhaps it’s the result of viewing too many episodes of Zombies. However, as the plot developed, I began to like the characters more and more; I found myself enjoying the story more and more because to their humorous banter, clever dialogue, and sweet romance. It’s been a while since I read about a pair that are equally resolute, savvy, assured, resolute, compassionate, and insatiable. I enjoyed watching them go from casual dating to an actual relationship; they made a great pair, and I could have listened to them chatter for hours. I enjoyed their fiery attraction and sizzling chemistry, but the sexual scenes felt like fillers.
Thanks to Cristina for the recommendation, this is my first J.J. McAvoy novel, but it won’t be my last. Her work is a breath of fresh air, full of wit and intelligence. This author can craft a sexy, arrogant, drool-worthy, threatening, and nerdy alpha guy with glasses fans self. Professor Black is the man for all the women who go weak at the knees for jerks with a gentler side.
Even though the majority of the book focused on Levi and Thea’s developing relationship and their concerns, the tale took a surprising turn and concluded strongly, which was one of the things I like most about it. The mystery and romantic elements of the narrative were both strong and well-balanced.
