About The Author Jennette McCurdy
Jennette McCurdy commenced her career in the realm of child acting, which, by the time she reached her late teenage years, had garnered her considerable achievements, including her prominent roles in the popular Nickelodeon television series iCarly and its spin-off, Sam & Cat. Subsequently, she embarked on a prominent role in the Netflix series Between, and briefly pursued a country music vocation under Capitol Records Nashville. Despite achieving significant success in her career, McCurdy experienced feelings of shame and dissatisfaction with around 90% of her professional accomplishments documented in her résumé. Consequently, she resorted to alcohol as a coping mechanism. However, this approach proved ineffective, prompting her decision to discontinue her acting career and instead embark on a new path in writing and directing, commencing in 2017.
She has authored and directed a pilot episode, as well as four short films. The author’s work has been prominently showcased in reputable platforms such as The Hollywood Reporter, Short of the Week, Florida Film Festival, Salute Your Shorts, among others. So, in my pre-review of this book, where I complained about not being able to find a copy anywhere because of all the HYPE (seriously, I couldn’t find a copy anywhere, and the library had a five-hundred-year wait; thank GOD my sister sent me a copy as payment for watching her kitten), I said that the people who were giving this author crap about her choice of title were dickheads. Some people were upset with me, but I still stand by what I said. After reading this story, even more so.
People who support the mother are really giving me the side eye, because this memoir says she was verbally, emotionally, physically, and sexually abusive. Not only that, but when her daughter was 11, she taught her to have an eating problem and then kept an eye on her to make sure she kept starving herself. Not to mention the stage parenting, the freak-outs (especially while driving), and the fact that she wiped Jennette’s behind when she went to the toilet well into her preteens (imagine not trusting your 11-year-old daughter to wipe her own behind) and showered her into her late teens (sometimes with her older brother and also while giving her breast and vaginal exams, I guess to look for cancer).
