African American affluents have a tight-knit community in Sag Harbor’s SANS (Sag Harbour Hills, Azurest, and Nineveh) neighbourhood, where they can get away from the city and enjoy the warm weather and beaches in privacy. She develops feelings for Mr. Whittingham, an elderly gentleman who seems really nice but turns out to have his own problems.
As the summer progresses, she learns more about herself via the various relationships she has. Olivia’s journey to discover her true self in the hidden history of her ancestry will not be easy, but it will ultimately renew her faith in herself, her relationships, her blackness, and the road she has chosen for herself and her family.

Summer on Sag Harbor Book Summary
The setting of mysterious and picturesque Sag Harbour made for an engrossing book that was great for a day at the beach.
Having a character like Olivia, who came across as closed-minded and angry in the first novel, become a more nuanced and likeable figure in this one really impressed me. Seeing her grow as a person was an unexpected bonus that made the story feel more real.
It was encouraging to see minorities represented at such high levels of success and wealth. It was refreshing and admirable that the show dismantled prejudices and presented a more nuanced portrayal of folks from different backgrounds.
The book’s writing style was also excellent. It wasn’t difficult to read, but it was really well-written, making it a pleasure to learn about these fascinating people. Drama and heartfelt moments were sprinkled throughout the story at exactly the correct levels to keep me interested.
This novel hit a nice mix between lighthearted fun and deep exploration of its characters. It’s a great example of Sunny Hostin’s talent as a storyteller and her dedication to accurately and sympathetically depicting people from all walks of life. If you’re looking for a stimulating read this summer, go no further than this book.
