J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter prequel is an 800 word tale that debuted online on June 11, 2008. The story takes place roughly three years before Harry Potter was born and details an adventure that Sirius Black and James Potter went on.
J.K. Rowling jotted down at the card’s bottom, “From the prequel I am NOT working on – but that was fun!”
About The Author J.K. Rowling
Although she writes under the pen name J.K. Rowling, pronounced rolling, her given name was Joanne Rowling when the first Harry Potter book was published. Anticipating that the target audience of young males might not be interested in reading a book written by a woman, her publishers insisted that she use two initials instead of her full name. As she did not have a middle name, she chose her paternal grandmother’s initial for the second letter of her pseudonym name. She refers to herself as Jo and has stated, “No one ever called me ‘Joanne’ when I was young, unless they were angry.” Following her marriage, she has occasionally conducted personal business under the name Joanne Murray. In a 2012 interview, Rowling stated that she no longer cares if her name is mispronounced.
Rowling was born on July 31, 1965, in Yate, Gloucestershire, England, approximately 10 miles (16 kilometres) northeast of Bristol to Peter James Rowling, an aircraft engineer for Rolls-Royce, and Anne Rowling (née Volant). Her mother Anne was of French and Scottish descent. In 1964, her parents met for the first time on a train from King’s Cross Station to Arbroath. They wed on March 14, 1965. Dugald Campbell, the maternal ancestor of her mother, was born in Lamlash on the Isle of Arran. During the First World War, the maternal ancestor of her mother, Louis Volant, was awarded the Croix de Guerre for his valour in defending the village of Courcelles-le-Comte.
In their home, Rowling’s sibling Dianne was born when she was 23 months old. At age four, Rowling’s family migrated to the nearby village of Winterbourne. She attended the school founded by abolitionist William Wilberforce and education reformist Hannah More. Alfred Dunn, her rector at St. Michael’s, has been suggested as the inspiration for Harry Potter’s Albus Dumbledore.
As a child, Rowling frequently wrote and then read to her sister fantastical tales. She recalls: “I can still recall telling her a story in which she tumbled down a rabbit hole and was fed strawberries by a family of rabbits living inside. Almost certainly, the very first story I ever composed (when I was five or six) involved a rodent named rodent. He contracted measles and received visits from his companions, including a giant bee named Miss Bee.” At age nine, Rowling relocated to Church Cottage in the village of Tutshill, Gloucestershire, close to Chepstow, Wales.
A very old copy of Jessica Milford autobiography, Hons and Rebels, was given to her by her great aunt, who, according to Rowling, “During her early adolescence, she received instruction in the field of classics and expressed support for an intellectual curiosity, especially if it pertained to subjects that were considered dubious. Mitford emerged as the central character in Rowling’s literary works, prompting Rowling to thoroughly explore all of Milford oeuvre.
Harry Potter Book Summary
I told Neo we would sit down together and read the Harry Potter books. I wanted to start with this prologue since, gasp, I’ve never written one before.
Two officers observe a motorbike passing them at an impossible rate of speed. The two boys with the long hair finally come clean about who they are as they reach a dead end. The two law enforcement officers don’t understand why James Potter and Sirius Black don’t seem to be taking this seriously.
The status quo is abruptly changed due to an unexpected event. This is probably only the beginning of a series, but just like the coppers, I have no idea what is going on.
