New York is home for Jake Barnum. He’s a petty criminal who sells heated clothes with his pal Maggs to make ends meet and take care of his sick younger brother. At a downtown Halloween party, he meets a lady in a Marilyn Monroe costume who works for a secret agency called The Desire Card. The company’s slogan is “Any Wish Fulfilled for the Right Price.”
Jake starts robbing from the wealthy and donating to the needy after becoming enamoured with the group’s leader, a pseudo father and true sociopath at heart. That is to say…himself. However, as he becomes more invested in the Card, falls in love with Marilyn, and watches the money pour in, he begins to worry that some of his clients’ wishes may lead to murder.
Immoral Origins is the first novel in the Desire Card series and it follows the people who owe money to a corrupt organisation where the ultimate price is one’s soul.
About The Author Lee Matthew Goldberg
Twelve novels by Lee Matthew Goldberg have been published, including THE ANCESTOR and THE MENTOR and the DESIRE CARD series, which consists of five books. His original written pilot for the young adult series RUNAWAY TRAIN is currently being adapted by actress Raegan Reword of TV’s Young Sheldon. He has been nominated for the Prix du Polar and published in several languages.

Immoral Origins Book Summary
The first book in a trilogy about a criminal organisation that grants wishes for exorbitant sums, Immortal Origins sets the tone for chaos and irreverence. In addition to being nice, all of the group’s members have had their faces merged onto those of famous actors.
The boundary between truth and fiction tends to blur when they do lines of coke and disco at Studio 54 while dressed as Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable, Spencer Tracy, and Errol Flynn. The gangs fight rival gangs. They operate as a drug dealer. Contracts are abided by. The actual drama, however, lies in the characters’ wacky, mutually dependent relationships with one another, which they maintain out of protectiveness and loyalty. Definitely not your average murder mystery. A touch out there and weird.
