This book is a continuation of the series It Ends with Us and picks up exactly where the last book left off. It is recommended that the second book, It Starts with Us, be read in the two-book series in order to get the most out of the reading experience. After the publication of It Ends with Us, I never in a million years thought I’d be writing a second book in the series. In addition, I could never have dreamed that the book would be enjoyed by as many people as it already is. I am so thankful to each and every one of you who found Lily’s story to be inspiring in the same way that I find my mother’s story to be.
Following the success of It Ends with Us on TikTok, I received an overwhelming number of requests for further content with Lily and Atlas. How could I possible turn my back on a community that has had such a positive impact on my life? This book was created as a thank-you for the overwhelming support that I have received, and as a result, I wanted to provide a reading experience that was far less weighty. Both Lily and Atlas are deserving of this. I really hope you get to enjoy their trip.
Begining of the Plot
In the story, Darin, the restaurant’s owner, is the intended victim of a break-in at Bib’s. The owner is taken aback when he learns that the red spray-painted misspelling of “ass whole” is deliberate and that the perpetrators are likely unhappy workers. Darin advises the business owner to call the police in the hope that they would apprehend the thieves.
A text message arrives from Lily Kincaid, who has been missing since the burglary, and interrupts the business owner. The proprietor has been attempting to get in touch with her but has heard nothing back. The authors imply that the assaults were motivated by hunger and the opportunity to steal. The proprietor has doubts about Lily’s marital status and is thinking about seeking second opinion.
With today’s visitor, Brad, in mind, the proprietor modifies her profile to include the surname Bloom and her contact details accordingly. The second book picks up where the first left off, with Lily Kincaid reuniting with Atlas Corrigan after almost two years. She and her ex-husband Ryle have been co-parenting their 11-month-old daughter Emerson since their divorce. Even though he has found great success as the owner of two restaurants in Boston, Atlas will never forget the girl who threw him a lifeline at a time when he really needed it. This unexpected meeting couldn’t have come at a better time, considering he was also Lily’s first love.
Essence of the tale
Please read It Ends with Us before attempting this one. You won’t get lost, but you also won’t get the lessons this novel teaches if you stop reading in the middle. Lily makes the courageous choice in the first novel to abandon Ryle and break the cycle of cruelty in her family. In this context, she is facing challenges associated with coparenting with her abuser, who has not yet taken responsibility for his actions.
Lily makes some excellent choices in how they coparent their children, but she also makes some mistakes that allow Ryle an opening to try to win her back. Ryle’s worst impulses are sparked by her and Atlas’s decision to start dating. While I don’t always agree with Lily’s decisions when it comes to Ryle, I like the strategies she employed to remind herself of the importance of maintaining her resolve. Though he had every right to turn into a bitter man, Atlas instead saw himself in Lily’s eyes and won my heart. He’s the caring man she always imagined thanks to everything he learned from Mom. He was very charming.

I love how the story is recounted from both Lily and Atlas’s perspectives by two different narrators. I felt like I was “hearing” the characters exactly how I saw them in both renditions. They truly excelled.
Conclusion
This story met or exceeded all of my high expectations. After the first book finished, I let my mind run wild with possibilities for how their story may conclude happily. That’s a huge improvement! Their journeys to fulfilment were fraught with difficulty, but they share a history that serves as a unifying thread. Learning more about Atlas’s past and the circumstances that led to his homelessness was fascinating. Even though the story has a lot of emotional depth already, he is in for a few shocks that make it even better. The narration enhanced what was already a fantastic story. Use the audiobook if it’s available.
