This adorable little book was free with the preorder of Jennifer L. Armentrut’s Blood and Ash, book two in her fantasy series. The Red Pearl is a small book that reveals Hawke’s thoughts at the precise moment he meets Poppy for the first time. Everything takes place inside a bar called the Perla Rossa.
The narrative doesn’t add much to what we already know about their first meeting, but we do learn what the male protagonist tries. However, I was unable to go as deeply into her psyche as I had hoped. Adds only a few minor details that we already knew from reading Sangue and Cenere. Regardless, I found it helpful in re familiarizing myself with the Ascesi, Caduti, Altantiani, and Craven, as well as the world-building of the main story.
