Kabir Das was an Indian mystical poet and saint from the 15th century whose writings influenced the Bhakti movement of Hinduism as well as his verses can be found in Guru Granth Sahib’s scripture. His early life was in a Muslim family, but his teacher, Hindu bhakti leader Ramananda, had great influence on him.

Saint Kabir Das Philosophy

Kabir is renowned to be critical of both religions and organised religions. He challenged the meaningless and unethical practises of all religions in Hindu and Muslim religions. During his lifetime, both Hindus and Muslims threatened him with his views. When he died, he had inspired Hindus as well as Muslims to claim him as theirs. Kabir means Poet/Saint famous

Kabir suggested that truth lies with those who are on the path of justice, who consider all things, alive and not alive, divine and passively detached from the world’s affairs.

Kabir suggested that to know the truth, drop the “I” or the ego. he legacy of Kabir continues through and survives through the Kabir Panth (‘Path of Kabir’), a religious community that recognises him as its founder and is one of the sects of the Sant Mat. Its members are called Kabir panthis.

Everything is in a Flux in the World

All things in the world, according to Kabir, are impermanent. All living and nonliving things, including insects, animals, trees, rivers, mountains, and humans, are only temporary and will cease to exist at some point. He advised his followers not to bemoan the death of something that was unavoidable. As a result, he emphasised that the only true and permanent reality in this impermanent world was God, who could be attained through Bhakti.

Attain Liberation / Salvation

One more point of contention for Kabir was the concept of liberation or salvation. Liberation meant being free of the agonies of life and death. According to him, liberation was a state of “fearlessness.” He explained that, just as water flows out of a hole in a pot and mixes with the water outside, the individual soul moves out of the gross body after death to merge with the cosmic soul. This is what it means to be free.

Kabir Das Poems

Where spring, the lord of the seasons reigns, there the unstruck music plays itself out, where the streams of light flow in all directions, and where the men who can cross to that shore are few and far in between.

There, where millions of Krishnas stand in their hands folded, millions of Vishnus bow their heads, million Brahmas read Vedas, million Shivas are lost in contemplation and millions of Indras live in the sky,

When the demi-gods and munis are unnumbered, millions of saraswatis, the musical deity, play vina, my Lord has revealed himself, and the aroma of sandal and flowers lives in these depths.

Kabir Das

This kabir poem is hindi language with the English translation

Chalti Chakki Dekh Kar, Diya Kabira Roye
Dui Paatan Ke Beech Mein,Sabit Bacha Na Koye

Translation: Kabir laments as he looks at the grinding stones.

Nothing survives in the duel of wheels.

Kabir Das

Kabir and his followers called his oral poems of wisdom “bānīs” (utterances). Songs and couplets, which are diversely called dohe, śalokā (Sanskrit: ślokā), or sākhî (Sanskrit: sāk auda). The latter term means “witness,” implying that the poems are proof of the Truth.

Saint Kabir Das Teachings

The philosophical principles of Kabir were extremely simple. He was known as the Bhakti Movement’s guiding spirit. He preached Bhakti or ‘Devotion’ by his ‘Dohas’ medium. Kabir’s Dohas touched the hearts of everyone and everyone loved him. The following are the aspects of Kabir’s teachings, philosophy & ideas;

Kabir Das on God

God was indeed the central focus of Kabir’s religion, and he was addressed by various names. In his opinion, God was Ram, Rahim, Govind, Allah, Khuda, Hari, and so on. But ‘Saheb’ was Kabir’s favourite name. He claimed that God is everywhere and that His domain is limitless. God was pure, sacred, existing, formless, light, infinite, and inseparable. As a result, God was supremely powerful, and he could only be worshipped through love and devotion. God is one and has no second, regardless of how He is addressed. As a result, Kabir preached Monotheism.

Kabir Das on Love

Love for all was the main tenet of Kabir. He emphasised that love was the only medium capable of uniting all of humanity in an unbreakable bond of fraternity. Kabir hates the frivolities and rituals of Hinduism and Islam, because they can never bind the human race together. He therefore advised everyone to give up hatred and to perpetuate love for everyone.

Saint Kabir Das on Bhakti (Devotion)

Kabir emphasised that the path of Bhakti was the only way to attain God. Intense love and devotion would undoubtedly lead to the ultimate attainment of Godhood. Total submission at His feet allows one to reach Him, and this should be the ultimate goal of all, as Kabir emphasised. There were no rituals or ceremonies required for this; only a pure heart and unwavering devotion were required. As a result, Kabir advised his followers to pursue Godhood through the path of Bhakti.

Soul (Atman/Atma)

Soul-related topics were an important part of Kabir’s mystical messages. According to him, the soul was life, breath, and knowledge. It was a component of the ‘ultimate knowledge.’ The soul itself was both the creation and the creator. It was also the know-how and the know-how. The soul was both the creator and the destroyer of all things. Cows may be different colours, but milk is the same in Kabir’s opinion.

As a result, even as different ideas and thoughts merged, the soul remained the same. The soul was one and the same, inseparable and self-creating. It was God’s most magnificent creation. Kabir presented numerous perspectives on the soul. As a result, it became extremely difficult to have a precise defamation of the soul.
