Just look at it and don’t touch it…
Those were the ground regulations.
When it came to their one and only younger sister, her overprotective brothers expected everyone to act in the same manner as they did.
Best of luck to you with that.
Because if there was one thing I was competent at, it was disobeying instructions.
I wasn’t only trying to get the adversary to come to me…
I was putting myself in danger by doing so.

Tempting Enemy Book Summary
My entire life, ever since I was a little girl, I’ve dreamed of finding my very own Prince Charming. My brave champion, my saviour. However, I failed to realise… In my story, Hayes would play the role of the evil sorcerer.”
Despite starting off as rivals, the main characters in this narrative had great chemistry together and made for a compelling love story. It’s the first of a brand new series and does a great job of setting the stage for what’s to come. However, it was obviously in need of modification.
“The intensity of his stare made me feel like an animal. Like a lion right before it pounces on its victim. Menacingly staring at me with a smile so sick it hurt.”
Hayes and Haven are the focus of this book. Their first encounter is… interesting in a unique way, and you can tell that sparks will fly between them. She is interested in a job at the bar he co-owns with him. Haven is not easily dissuaded, manipulated, or coerced into doing anything against her will, and he sees this when he doesn’t let it happen.
In the end, she is successful in achieving her goals.
“It’s impossible for me to be near you without wanting more of you. To put it simply, I want everything. That I am drawn to you when our backgrounds couldn’t be more dissimilar is beyond me.”
Because they both want each other so badly, the tension between them quickly becomes intolerable. Hayes’ jealousy and desire to shield her had a profound effect on me, and I soon found myself deeply in love with him.
Their witty back-and-forth was another highlight for me, even if she occasionally went too far into brat territory or whined too much. Sometimes I thought I heard her stomp her foot like a little kid.
I just didn’t warm to her personality.
“To put it simply, she dazzled me. Swallowed up by her. She sank me. She had complete and total control over me; she even had my soul.”
It felt like drama was manufactured only to generate drama, and to excuse her giving him more lip (thus my bratty/whiny remark above), when what we really needed was more character development and less tension.
Nonetheless, I enjoyed following them on their journey. He attempts to fight her off, but she’s not making it easy. That she took it upon herself to make him crazy was brilliant.
“I want to claim you as my own.”
Haven’s innocence in so many regards stood out to me more than their age difference (she’s 18 and he’s 25), especially in light of Hayes’ complicated history and present. They both have a lot of questions, but the primary one is why he tries so hard to keep his distance from her.
Not to worry; everything will come out in the wash. Do not reveal any plot details.
Haven, your body was designed for me. I’m the only one for whom you were intended. This time, you’re staying with me. Do you grasp what I’m saying?”
You’ve got to answer the question, “You promise?”
“I bloody swear”
Despite the unexpected changes of events, it’s clear that they were always meant to be. It makes no difference that he’s older and more experienced, that her (extremely overprotective) brothers don’t want it to happen, or that when certain truths are revealed, their entire world will collapse.
The next book in the series has my eager anticipation. Aside from the fact that I have a soft spot for the cranky ones, the age difference should make things interesting.
“Hell, no, Peach…. I’m the one grovelling before you.”
I loved how they both needed healing and could only get it from each other. Despite obstacles, like enmity, love ultimately triumphs.
