The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight Book Summary
I’ve been desperate to get my paws on this book ever since I read its summary. It does not disappoint. This is a narrative that is both sweet and heartbreaking. In the scenes with Oliver, the tale is sweet, while the ones with Hadley’s father and family drama are heartbreaking.
Hadley is travelling from Connecticut to London in order to attend the wedding of her father. She misses her flight by four minutes and is shifted to the following flight. This makes things extremely close, as she will now arrive at 10 a.m. and the wedding is at noon. Hadley had no desire to fly in. She does not want to attend this wedding because she is still furious with her father for abandoning her and her mother two years ago. She hasn’t seen her father in over a year and has refused to travel out to meet his fiancee until now. Her only motivation for attending is her mother’s insistence.
While Hadley is waiting for her next flight, Oliver, a gentleman sitting next to her, assists her with her bags as she drops them everywhere. She discovers that he is on the same flight as her, and they end up eating together in the terminal, sparking a connection. Hadley believes that once they board the aircraft, they will be separated and this will be the last time she speaks with Oliver. But they wind up sitting next to each other on the plane and converse the entire time (with the exception of a few naps on one or the other’s shoulder!). establishing mutual affinity.
